The red rose buti on this jet black top is a two-colour block print — cream stem and leaf first, red tulip buds second — two separate carved wooden blocks pressed in precise sequence on the same cloth. Against a black ground, the contrast is absolute.

The geometric spiral of the bottom and the maze border of the dupatta are each a third and fourth carved block — four distinct print traditions across one coordinated set.

The Making

Carve, Align, Press, Bloom

Printing red and cream on black demands precise ink opacity — the colour must completely cover the dark base. Every impression built with patience and a steady hand.

Block Carving

Four separate teak blocks are carved — the rose bud cluster, the cream stem, the spiral/dot motif and the geometric maze border — each with fine detail work.

Fabric Preparation

Deep black cotton khaddar is stretched flat on a padded printing table with spacing guides marked for even buti placement before any printing begins.

Cream & Red Stamping

Cream stem and leaf first — shade dried. Red rose buds second — pressed with even, firm pressure to achieve full opacity on the dark base. Each buti placed by eye.

Drying & Setting

Shade-dried after each colour, then fully heat-set — permanently bonding the red and cream into the black cotton fibres across all three fabric pieces.
