The dense abstract floral batik on this top is a three-colour wax composition — white/cream wax-resist outlines preserve the negative space, blush pink fills each petal form, and the deep plum ground holds everything together. Each starburst bloom radiates from a central dot cluster, and where they meet they connect into a continuous floral web that covers every centimetre of the fabric.

The tight herringbone chevron leaf on the bottom takes the same palette in the opposite direction — minimal, geometric, tone-on-tone, a deliberate counterpoint to the dense floral top.

The Making

Three Colours. Two Techniques. One Set.

Wax batik for the dense floral top, block print for the tight chevron leaf bottom — two separate craft techniques united by the same deep plum and blush pink palette.

Wax Outline — Top

Hot wax is drawn onto plum cotton tracing each starburst bloom outline and connecting vine — preserving the cream/white negative space within each floral form before dye.

Blush Pink Fill

A second wax pass or brush application adds blush pink within the petal areas — creating the three-colour composition of white outline, pink fill and plum ground in one fabric.

Chevron Leaf Block — Bottom

A small paired-leaf arrow block is stamped in blush pink in a tight diagonal herringbone grid across the plum bottom — row by row, offset by half a unit each row.

Wax Removal & Setting

The top fabric is boiled to remove wax, revealing the three-colour floral pattern — then all pieces are heat-set to permanently bond the colours into the cotton fibres.
