Heritage & Craft

Navy Ground. Terracotta Earth. Ancient Pairing.

Navy and terracotta is one of the oldest colour pairings in South Asian textile craft — the deep cool of indigo against the warm earth of natural dye. The tall fern sprig buti on this top is drawn in hot wax onto navy cotton before terracotta dye immersion — each slender leaf and branching stem preserved in precise resist.

The geometric chain of the bottom and the rosette medallion borders of the dupatta are carved wooden blocks — different craft techniques across three coordinated fabrics, all speaking the same earthy two-tone language.

The Making

Wax, Dye, Block, Reveal

Wax batik for the fern body, carved block printing for the chain bottom and rosette borders — two distinct handcraft techniques across one unified set.

01
Wax Drawing — Top

Hot wax is drawn onto navy cotton using a tjanting tool — tracing each tall fern sprig stem and branching leaf dot by hand before terracotta dye immersion.

02
Terracotta Dye Bath

The waxed navy fabric is submerged in warm terracotta/rust dye — wax resists where fern sprigs were drawn, preserving the navy ground within each leaf and stem form.

03
Chain Block — Bottom

The vertical chain capsule-and-arrow motif is carved into a wooden block and stamped in terracotta on navy — repeat by repeat down the full fabric length.

04
Wax Removal & Setting

All pieces boiled to remove wax, then heat-set — permanently bonding the terracotta pattern into the navy cotton fibres across all three fabric pieces.

Wear It Your Way

Deep Navy. Warm Earth. Timeless Together.

Navy and terracotta has dressed South Asian women for generations — it is a pairing that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted. The delicate fern buti top and the bold geometric chain bottom work in the same two tones while speaking entirely different pattern languages.

The dupatta ties it all together with a richly layered border that rewards a second look. Unstitched — cut to your exact fit.

The Dupatta

Fern Sprigs Above. Rosette Borders Below.

The body carries scattered tall fern sprig motifs in terracotta on navy — the same pattern as the top, now breathing in loose scatter across the full 240 cm drape. At the hem, a rich sequence of borders unfolds: geometric zigzag, a wide band of floral rosette medallions framed by the selvedge diamond lattice, and horizontal stripe bands — the full heritage vocabulary of the set gathered in one finish.

Wash & Care

Keep the Navy Deep. Keep the Terracotta Warm.

  • Hand wash separately in cold water with mild detergent.
  • Do not soak or scrub printed areas. No bleach or harsh chemicals.
  • Dry in shade — sunlight fades navy depth and dulls terracotta warmth.
  • Iron on low heat from reverse side only. Do not wring harshly.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We're here to help.

Does khadi get softer with every wash?

Usually, it does. After each wash, the fibers tend to relax and the fabric gets looser, thus giving a softer and more comfortable feeling.

Is the Sky Blue Traditional Cotton Khadi fabric truly handspun and handwoven?

Yes. The Sky Blue Traditional Cotton Khadi fabric is handspun and handwoven by artisans who are skilled and who use traditional looms, thus each piece has a unique texture.

Is this khadi fabric breathable and comfortable for summer wear?

Yes. Khadi is a breathable fabric and is lightweight as well, so it allows the air to pass and keeps the skin cool. It is very comfortable for summer wear.

Will the sky blue colour fade after a few washes?

No. The sky blue colour stays bright if you care for it properly. Use cold water for washing with a mild soap and dry in the shade to avoid fading of the colour.

What makes Khadi special?

Each Khadi Sadan product is crafted from authentic KVIC-certified hand-spun and hand-woven fabric, made by skilled rural artisans using natural fibers and dyes. Every piece supports sustainable livelihoods and carries forward India’s timeless textile heritage since 1982.

How should I care for my Khadi garment?

We recommend gentle hand wash or mild machine wash in cold water using eco-friendly detergent. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals. Dry in shade to preserve natural texture and color. With every wash, Khadi becomes softer and more comfortable aging beautifully with time.

Is Khadi suitable for all seasons?

Yes. Khadi’s natural fibers make it a year-round fabric — it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. Its breathable weave allows air circulation, making it one of the most comfortable and skin-friendly textiles for India’s diverse climate.

Do your garments shrink after wash?

Khadi may experience a slight, natural shrinkage (3–5%) during the first wash, which is a hallmark of genuine hand-woven fabric. To minimize this, always wash in cold water and avoid tumble drying.

Can I return or exchange my product?

Yes. We offer hassle-free returns or exchanges within 14 days of delivery for unused, unwashed products with tags intact. For assistance, contact our customer support via info@khaddarvas.com or WhatsApp us on our helpline. or call us at our toll free number 1800-309-8383
