The daisy buti on this crimson top is block printing at its most confident — a single 8-petal open flower with a dotted centre, carved into one wooden block and pressed in crisp opaque white onto vivid red cotton. The restraint of spacing is everything: wide, breathing room between each buti lets the red ground do the work.

The mustard stripe bottom is batik — wax-resist printed, giving the white bands their characteristic crackle texture that no machine can replicate.

The Making

Press, Wax, Dip, Reveal

Two different craft techniques — block printing for the top, batik wax-resist for the bottom and dupatta — combined across one coordinated set.

Block Carving — Top

The 8-petal daisy flower is hand-carved into a single teak wood block — each petal notched with a distinct rounded tip to create the crisp floral silhouette.

White Stamping on Red

Opaque white fabric ink is loaded onto the daisy block and stamped firmly onto stretched crimson cotton — each buti placed by eye with deliberate spacing.

Wax Resist — Bottom

For the stripe bottom, hot wax is applied in horizontal bands before mustard dye immersion — the waxed areas resist the dye, creating the white stripes with their characteristic crackle texture.

Gradient Dye — Dupatta

The dupatta is dip-dyed in crimson from one end and mustard from the other — the two dyes blending in the centre to create a natural gradient that cannot be exactly replicated.
